COVID-19: Foreign communities support Angolan State

Luanda - Businesspeople and foreign communities based in the country are joining themselves towards the efforts of the Angolan State to fight the new coronavirus (Covid-19), a pandemic that plagues the world.

In Cuanza Sul province, Mauritanians and Chinese people who are living in the municipalities of Sumbe, Porto Amboim and Quilenda, have donated last Tuesday biosecurity material and money to the province technical commission in the control of the pandemic Covid-19 to alleviate the shortage of these goods.

The donation includes sprayers, masks, detergents, buckets fitted with taps and more than three million kwanzas.

The Islamic community, which owns the trade and service company as well the catching, processing and selling of sea food, have offered also various support goods to the municipal and provincial technical commissions.

The Cuanza Sul Public Health and Endemic Control Department Chief, Delfina da Silva praised the gesture and assured that the goods will be distributed in the 12 municipalities of the province.

In Cuanza Norte province, the Mauritanians community handed over an amount of 2.5 million kwanzas to the provincial government, also aiming to support the local initiatives to prevent and combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

On the occasion, the provincial governor, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho praised the gesture and said that it will contribute for the effort of the conditions on the prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially for the provisional resettlement of more than 1,000 families displaced by the rains.

Meanwhile, the Mauritanian community representative in the province, Hedal Taleb Mohamed said that the gesture aims to demonstrate the union of people in calamity times especially in this time in which the world is facing the coronavirus pandemic.

Angola has already reported 17 positive cases of Covid-19, of which two died, two got cured and others are under medical surveillance.
