Government meets Unesco recommendations

Mbanza Kongo - The Government is focused on the fulfillment of the recommendations of Unesco related to the Mbanza Kongo city historical center, elevated to world heritage on 08 July 2017.

This statement was made last Thursday in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, by the Culture Minister, Maria de Jesus, during the presentation ceremony of the regulation and urban plan proposal for this city historical center, former capital of Kongo Kingdom.

The minister reminded that among the Unesco recommendations are included the regulations making and the urban plan of this former capital city of the Kongo Kingdom, as well as the airport construction out of the city limits.

The removal of the telecommunications metal antennas from the urban hull, as well as the holding of annual International Culture Festival (Festikongo), in Mbanza Kongo are other recommendations from Unesco.

The official said that the Ministry of Culture will send to Unesco, at the end of this year, a report about the fulfillment of the required recommendations.

Meanwhile, talking about the new airport, she said that the project is being dealt within the right structures of the Ministry of Transports, whereas the metal antennas have already begun to be removed from the city center

Regarding to Festikongo, the minister stated that from the second edition of the festival to be held this year, the event organization will be under total responsibility of Zaire Provincial Government.
