Huila: State Secretary backs alignment of mining potential

Lubango - The country’s mining potential should be in the line with good exploration practices and willingness to develop latent in the various actors of the ornamental stone subsector, with a view to ensuring progressive growth of the sector in Angola, said Friday in Lubango, southern Huila province, the Secretary of State for Geology and Mines, Jânio Victor.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the International Conference and Exhibition on Ornamental Stones, he said that Angola still needs to grow in the ore mining and processing industry.

He said that this business yields an average Euro 5 billion annually worldwide.
 

The official pointed out that Angola has the potential to become great in the ornamental stone subsector, adding that it is necessary to grow to reach the objective.

But to achieve this goal the sector counts on the help by the international association of the branch, he said.

Jânio Victor noted that the sectors of the branch must grow at different levels in the value range to better respond to the people’s expectations, especially young nationals.

"We know the problems, we will work on the solutions and face together the challenge of being a major player in the short and medium term at a regional and international level," he stressed.
 

The two-day conference aimed to promote the country's potential in the field of ornamental stones to attract investment.
