Angola: Profile of State Minister Manuel Nunes Júnior

Luanda - The State Minister for Economic and Social Development, appointed Thursday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, is the economist Manuel José Nunes Júnior, 55-year old.

Born on December 6, 1961, in Benguela, Manuel Nunes Júnior, graduated in Economics from the Agostinho Neto University (UAN) at the age of 23, earned a master's degree in economics from the University of Essex and a doctorate from York University, UK.

His PhD thesis entitled "Public Finance and Economic Growth" earned him a distinction in this prestigious English university, very famous for its strong academic research reputation.

He was Director of the Faculty of Economics of Agostinho Neto University (1986-1991) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Company for the Exploration of Airports and Air Navigation (ENANA) between 1999 and 2002.

Associate Professor at the Agostinho Neto University, Manuel Júnior coordinated the team that prepared the MPLA Government Program for 2009/2012.

In 2003, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance and holds the position of secretary of the MPLA Political Bureau for Economic and Social Policy.

1984: Collaborator to the Commission of the People's Assembly for Education, Culture, Sport, Youth and Religions

1998: Founding Member and Coordinator of the MPLA Single Cell in England
1999 to 2002: Chairman of the Board of Directors of ENANA
2002 to 2003: Deputy Minister of Finance
2003: Secretary of the MPLA Political Bureau for Economic and Social Policy
2008 to 2010: Minister of Economy
2010: State Minister of Economic Coordination
2012 to 2017: Chairman of the Fifth Committee - Committee on Economy and Finance
2014: Appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sagrada Esperança Foundation
