The information was released by the spokesperson for the National Police, commissioner Waldemar José, who added that recruiting more personnel requires more funds.

Currently, public order in the country’s most populous province (Luanda) is secured by a 20,000 police officers personnel, which is short to handle the local population density needs, he explained.

According to him, 93 percent of the Interior Ministry go for salaries alone as the government is faced with a shortage of money that would be required for new intakes.

He added that in the current situation of public calamity in the country due to the covid-19 pandemic, a large part of the police force is busy helping to enforce  preventive measures and the other is securing their traditional task of maintaining order and public security.
