National Police sub-commissioner Waldemar José was commenting on what he considered a rising hostility against national security agency members on duty, highlighting an incident in which an officer was shot dead recently by criminals.

On the other hand, the officer mentioned the detention of eight persons in connection with acts of vandalism and unrest during a demonstration by motorbike taxi operators in the municipality of Cacuaco, Luanda.

According to the spokesperson, another 51 people were detained in Luanda on Friday for drunk-driving.

He also said the country’s borders are safe enough and that the police have been detaining people attempting to cross the lines.

The officer mentioned the detention of 140 people who attempted to enter or exit Luanda, in contempt of the restriction measures imposed by the authorities since March this year in the country, due to the covid-19 pandemic outbreak.

Waldemar José confirmed that an absconded person suspected of carrying the novel coronavirus has been located in Luanda.

He called on the members of society to remain calm as the suspect has been put in custody of the national defence and security forces for tests.
