The information was released Monday in Lunda Norte province’s capital Dundo by the spokesperson for the Multi-sector Commission for Covid-19 Response in the region, Filomena Simão, who said the eight suspected cases were detected after the testing of 48 people.
The official identified the cases as contacts of a 41-year old Cape Verdean national who tested positive on 28 July after skipping the Luanda sanitary cordon.
According to the official, the eight specimens have been sent to Luanda for molecular testing, with the suspects serving an institutional quarantine in Lunda Norte, awaiting their results, joining another 61 with the same status.
Cuango municipality has thus adopted exceptional measures to handle the pandemic, the spokesperson said.
Lunda Norte province borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
