Sílvia Lututuca, who was speaking at the opening, by video conference, of the IV Palop Congress and II Congress of Oncology of Angola, which brings together specialists from the Portuguese speaking countries, WHO, highlighted the need to continue to adopt strategies that help to change risk behavior, increase education of the populations, strengthen technical resources and medicines, as well as the training of health professionals and multidisciplinary teams of oncology.
She ensured that these strategies are defined in the 2012-2025 PNDS and the 2018-2022 PND.
The minister said that oncologic diseases in Africa are increasing and it is estimated that in 2040 more than 2 million new cases will occur.
In the PALOPs there will be about 100,000 cases, a significant increase.
"The burden of cancer not only causes pain, suffering and grief. It seriously compromises the social and economic growth and prosperity expectations of our countries, and therefore urgent measures of prevention, control and universal access to new technologies and treatment are required," she said.
