According to the head of the Angolan diplomacy, who participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new Congolese president, Félix Tshisekedi, Angola's strategy in its relationship with the DRC remains and is established. The country expects to know the projections of the new Congolese Administration in the matter.

"Of course, we have to give the new president in the DRC time to formulate proposals and convey to us what his expectations are for further bilateral relations," he said.

Speaking to the Angolan press following an audience he was given by the new head of state of the DRC in Kinshasa, Manuel Augusto considered the DRC "a very important country for the stability of our continent, and particularly for the countries of the region".

"We are going to wait, we are not going to go ahead with the facts, but we believe that very soon there will be at the highest level meetings between the new Administration of the DRC and the Angolan Executive."

Manuel August before meeting with Tshisekedi, was also received in audience by former President Joseph Kabila, whom he said had transmitted a message from the Angolan head of state, João Lourenço.

Manuel Augusto was in Kinshasa representing President João Lourenço at the inauguration ceremony of Tshisekedi as the fifth president of the DRC, following the general elections of 30 December 2018.

According to him, this ceremony "really marked the history of the DRC" as it is the first time a peaceful and political transition of power has taken place in the country in about 60 years of independence.

He also said that Angola follows "with great care everything that goes on here" (DRC), which is why the country could not fail to be present to witness and "reaffirm our solidarity with our brothers in the DRC, our permanent availability" .
