Angolan writers in Oceanos prize semi-finals
Luanda - The Angolan writers Artur Carlos Maurício Pestana dos Santos "Pepetela” and José Eduardo Agualusa have been included in the list of 54 semi-finalists of the prize Oceanos 2019 out of an overall 1.467 works selected by 72 judges.

The writer Artur Carlos Maurício Pestana dos Santos "Pepetela” is contesting for the prize with the book entitled “Sua Excelência, de corpo presente”, (Your Highness of present body), while José Eduardo Agualusa introduces the work crónica “O paraíso e outros infernos”, “Paradise and other Hells”.
Amongst the 54 books selected there are 26 novels, 17 poetries, seven tales, three chronicles and dramaturgy written by African, American and European writers namely 34 Brazilians, 18 Portuguese and two Angolans.
Artur Carlos Maurício Pestana dos Santos "Pepetela” was born in central Benguela province on October 29 of 1941 his book reflects the contemporary history of Angola as well as the problems its society faces.
His first book was published in 1972 entitled As Aventuras de Ngunga. (Ngunga’s advantures) aimed for children and young people.
The other competitor, José Eduardo Agualusa Alves da Cunha was born in central Huambo on December 13 of 1960.
Oceanos-Prêmio de Literatura em Língua Portuguesa (until 2014 Portugal Telecom Prize for Literature) is deemed one of the most important prize among Portuguese Speaking countries along with Jabuti or Camões prizes.
The award is also considered similar to British Man Booker Prize, due to its rules resemblance and the high financial value of the prize.
