Angola, India assess cultural cooperation

Luanda - The reinforcement of cultural cooperation, focusing on the promotion and dissemination of the cultural assets and identity traits of the two peoples, as well as the training of cadres, marked the audience granted this Tuesday by the Minister of Culture, Maria da Piedade de Jesus, to the ambassador of India, Srikumar Menon.

During the meeting, the Cabinet minister, who considered cooperation between the two countries as “excellent”, focused on the need to strengthen bilateral exchange as a way of expanding culture.

Maria da Piedade de Jesus also pointed out the cultural training and qualification of the teachers of the High Technical Institute of Arts “CEARTE” and the Higher Institute of Arts (ISART).

The Angolan official also reported on the holding of the Luanda Biennial - Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace, to be held from 18 to 21 September, as well as the registration process of the Cuito Cuanavale Memorial, from the Kwanza Corridor and Tchitundu Hulu's rock paintings on the Unesco World Heritage List.

In His turn, the Indian diplomat, Srikumar Menon, reiterated the availability of his country to cooperate with Angola in various fields, particularly the training of cadres and culture.

He said the intention is to broaden the area of ​​cooperation between the two countries, whose focus is on trade.

In terms of training, Srikumar Menon stated that his country annually offers 20 to 30 scholarships per year. "This year, only 8 Angolan students have joined the program," said the ambassador, who pointed out the language as the main obstacle for Angolans to join the scholarships.
