Cacuso gains white potato processing plant

Malanje - A factory that processes white potatoes into potato chips, called "Palanca", with the capacity to produce 12,000 (40 and 80 grams) packs of this product in six hours, opened on Friday in the Municipality of Cacuso, north-central Malanje Province.

The factory, which initially has only one potato fryer machine, with the capacity to process 80 kilograms of potato per hour, has guaranteed employment for 44 Angolans and two expatriates.


Budgeted at USD 6 million, the unit allocated to the business group TEGMA-SU LDA, based in Luanda, was inaugurated by the governor of Malanje, Norberto dos Santos "Kwata Kanawa", as part of the expansion of the investments portfolio of the company.


On the occasion, the provincial governor, Norberto dos Santos "Kwata Kanawa", reiterated the importance of private investment for the province, having considered the potato factory a contribution to the economic growth of Cacuso as a satellite municipality of Malanje due to the Laúca and Capanda dams , as well as the several large farms it has.


He stressed that the province has considerable agricultural potential, which provides extra value to face the desired diversification of the economy.


On his turn, the municipal administrator of Cacuso, Caetano Tinta, considered the creation of the factory for the locality very valuable, as it joins the other major investments that contribute to the promotion of youth employment, as well as income generation and socioeconomic development of the region.


He said that this will encourage farmers to increase production, since they will be their customers when buying potatoes for processing, stressing that it is a priority of the municipal administration to continue to mobilize private investors so that the municipality gradually achieves the intended development.


Meanwhile, the administrator and owner of the factory, António Duarte Gomes, said that this is an investment valued at USD 6 million and that he plans to launch the stone for the construction of a school notebooks factory starting next March.

It also intends to produce industrially alcoholic drinks based on already existent traditional beverages and local recipes, for normal commercialization a local brand.


The factory occupies a space of 2 hectares, with some infrastructures in it already, out of a total 18 hectares.
