Angolan police reinforce road security

Luanda - The Angolan National Police are to reinforce road security measures such as by raising the awareness of drivers, passers-by and an increase of permanent oversight, mainly of trucks circulation out of their legally established ordinary period.

The information was disclosed on Sunday by the Home Affairs minister, Eugénio Laborinho, while addressing the march in loving memory of those killed on the roads of Angola.

On the occasion, the minister underlined that the police will not refrain from holding accountable those caught dink-driving, surpassing the stipulated limit.

The measure aims to reduce road accidents, number of victims and fatalities in the roads of the country, stressed the minister.

Road accidents are the top cause of deaths in Angola ahead of malaria; Luanda records the highest score of deaths, while Namibe Province (country’s south-west) has the lowest number of road accidents and deaths.

Angola recorded 1,859 deaths and 8,262 injured as a result of an overall 7,839 road accidents that occurred during the last nine months.
