Angola: Gender implementation entails permanent socialisation exercise

Luanda - The understanding and implementation of gender policy in Angola requires a continuous exercise in socialisation and elimination pattern of barriers hindering the full development of women, said Monday the Family and Women Promotion minister.

Filomena Delgado was speaking at launch ceremony of  "Analytical Report, Statistical Book of Gender and presentation of Action Plan for the Implementation of UNSCR 1325 on women," aimed to contribute to the Gender equality in the country.

According to the minister, due to this misunderstanding, the Angolan woman was conditioned in her contribution to the social, economic, political and cultural progress of Angola.

In recent years the gender issues in the country have gained momentum as a result of the engagement of the sector with partners and the implementation of programmes and actions that have enabled the strengthening of women, she said.

Filomena Delgado said that the implementation of the actions also ensured the economic strengthening, as well as their participation in the concert and decision-making steps, "he said.

The incumbent Family minister also said that the presentation of the results of the sector in terms of implementation and execution of policies, programmes and projects in this field are reflected in the National Development Plan for 2013-2017, whose implementation ends this year.

According to minister, the drafting of the first Gender Analytical Report represents the first important step towards strengthening the production of statistical data that will systematically monitor and evaluate the progress in gender and integration of women and girls.

She said that the Analytical Report and the Gender Statistical Book stipulates the achievement and progress made in terms of gender equality and empowerment of women in Angola.

The objectives of  Analytical Report launch includes the creation of an accessible and effective tool to clearly inform the progress made towards achieving gender equality, especially in the political, economic and social spheres.

The minister also clarified that the Plan of Action of Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security will provide the country with knowledge to ensure the understanding that women and young people are active actors for peace-building and reconstruction of the country.
