Huíla’s INE director, Sobral Katrapila, mentioned a study as saying that by the year 2050 there will be in the province 3.4 million males and 3.5 females.
The official added that most of Huíla’s population, that is more than four million inhabitants, will be living in the rural area by the year 2050, with the province’s capital city (Lubango) alone accounting for 3.3 million and Chipindo municipality with 87,677 people being the least populated.
In the survey, INE counted on the support of the Health Ministry and technical assistance from Unicef, ICF International and UN Population Fund.
According to the countrywide census of 2014, Huíla has currently a population estimated at 2.2 million inhabitants.
