Health Ministry creates measures to reduce road accidents

Luanda - Actions to raise awareness and prevention of road safety will be carried out as from Friday by the Ministry of Health (Minsa), to reduce morbidity and mortality on roads in the country and the prevention of road accidents during the festive season.

The information was provided on Friday during the ceremony to launch the campaign for prevention of road accidents in the festive season by the Secretary of State for Public Health, José Cunha.

He added that, in view of the high number of road accidents in the country in recent months, the sector has created measures to increase awareness among drivers and other road users of the attitude and practices of risks to human life.

"Emphasizing the importance of the use of protective means for health, such as use of helmets, seatbelts, reflective vest, retention seat, among others", he said.

The official clarified that Angola ranks fifth position in the road accident rate in the SADC region, presenting 23.1% of cases, according to the 2009/2014 global accident report.

The launch act of the referred campaign was attended by national health directors and heads of several hospitals.
