Dondo - The Government will hold defaulting contractors responsible for the failure to meet the construction deadline of 100 houses in the first phase of a project that comprise 200 homes in nine of the 10 municipalities of the northern Cuanza Norte province.

  • Cuanza Norte: Minister of Territorial Planning and Housing Ana Paula de Carvalho

The minister of Territorial Planning and Housing Ana Paula de Carvalho confirmed this to the press at the end of a visit aimed to assess the housing projects under her Ministry in Cuanza Norte.

She urged the local government to assess the degree of financial and physical execution of the works in order to determine the level of implementation of these works.

The minister visited the municipality of Samba Caju where the contractor, still to be completed, built 59 houses of the 100 planned in the first phase and which are currently left idle.

The same situation was also observed in the municipality of Cambambe - 50 houses  built - without being completed.

Ana Paula de Carvalho warned that the government will summon the contractors in charge of these projects to discuss the possibilities of their completion or the process will be referred to other forums.

Contrary to other municipality, in Lucala and the other six municipalities the minister confirmed completion of all the 100 houses, as planned in this first phase.

The Housing Development Programme comprises construction of 200 homes in nine of the 10 municipalities of the province, in a total of 1,800 houses, of which 739 units were built and delivered.
