Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos stressed that the perspective of the parliamentary relations between Angola and Italy "are frankly good and we want to consolidate them through concrete actions".
The speaker of the Angolan parliament who was speaking at the solemn Plenary meeting on the occasion of the Italian President's visit to Angola, said he was aware that deepening relations would contribute to "further" closer ties between the two countries and peoples.
He recalled that by laying the stone for parliamentary cooperation, everyone knew that the two states and governments have already made great strides in cooperation in various fields of economic and social life.
He said that this decision was gaining consistency with the exchange of delegations between the two parliaments, including the visit by an Angolan parliamentary delegation to Italy in April 2017.
He noted that the two countries have had relations of friendship and cooperation for four decades, "long enough to be considered mature, fruitful and promising because they are mutually advantageous."
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos took the occasion to thank the Italian people for their support for the country's libertarian cause when, at the beginning of modern Angolan nationalism, it welcomed in its homeland the representation in Europe of the historical movements of the struggle for Angolan freedom .
Italy was also the first Western European country to recognize Angola's independence on February 18, 1976, and on June 4 of that year established diplomatic relations with Angola.
In his dissertation, he made a brief description of the Angolan parliament after the elections of August 23, 2017, "held in an environment of political stability and under the sign of a peaceful transition."
He stressed that this political stability allowed the State institutions to define a political, economic and social agenda for the consolidation of the democratic state and law and for the realization of the common good.
Among these actions, he highlighted the transparency in the management of public affairs, the creation of a better business environment and the process for the diversification of the economy, in order to free the country from dependence on oil.
He recalled that Angola has the support of the privileged partners, including the Republic of Italy, for its economic and social development
