Head of State wants to increase fish catch

Luanda - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, said Friday that he expects the fishing sector to organize to increase the volume of catches and jobs.

President Lourenço expects improvement in Government performance at central and provincial level, the policy of license design should attract investment in infrastructure on land, cool and fish processing.

It is expected with this process to have better fish quality and surplus for export.

João Lourenço was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the new ministers of Fisheries and the Sea and Family and Women Promotion and Social Action, a Secretary of State for Agriculture and Forestry and the newly appointed governors of the provinces of Luanda, Cuanza Norte and Cuanza Sul.

He said the challenge is to extend the fishing industry across the country.

The head of State considered it necessary to replicate the fishing development centers, such as Tômbwa in Namibe and Farta Bay in Coastal Benguela province.

The fishing industry, according to President João Lourenço, should extend to other locations such as Porto Amboim in Cuanza Sul, Luanda, Ambriz in Bengo, Nzeto, Soyo in Zaire province.

This strategy is aimed at combating hunger and poverty.

The Head of State expects agriculture and fisheries to be the largest employers and contribute to the reduction of hunger and poverty.

He also emphasized that the quota of the General State Budget (OGE) for the agricultural sector, particularly the family, has been increased by about five times, hoping that the new Secretary of State will help the minister to put family agriculture in the place it deserves.

The President called for the commitment of society in the struggle for the recovery of moral values, despite the fact that the Ministry of Social Action, Family and Women Promotion have the primacy of leading these efforts.

He also considered that special attention should be paid to the provinces in view of the local elections.

The head of State swore in the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, José Carlos Lopes da Silva Bettencourt, the Ministers of Fisheries and the Sea, Maria Antonieta Josefina Sabina Baptista and for the Social Action, Family and Women Promotion, Faustina Fernandes Ingles de Almeida Alves.
