USA: MP hails Parliament's key role in fight against gender discrimination

New York - The honurable Ruth Adriano Mendes said in New York that Angola?s National Assembly has contributed to Angolan woman empowerment and root out of all kind of discrimination based on gender through legal and political reforms.

The MP said so when addressing on Friday at a parliamentary segment on the fringes of the 61st UN Session Commission on woman’s condition, adding that the training actions held by the Parliamentary Women Group have helped women to achieve tools that allow them to face the gender inequality issue in a deeper and wider way.

As regard to economic empowerment of women in situation of conflict and pos- conflict, mainly those displaced and refugee gained access to these economic opportunities, the Angolan MP invoked the experience of Angola, highlighting the allocation of land plot and seed of goods produced in the region where the population is going to be reallocated. 

“A National Family Action Plan has also been created, which is an instrument of guided policies aimed at meeting the current demands in the face of the dynamic of evolution of social phenomena related to Angolan families”, she stressed.

The National Rural Woman Development Plan, aimed at creating a dialogue process all over the country, is another instrument implemented by the government, said the MP.
