According to the president of the jury, António Fonseca, assigning the award to José Luís Mendonça due to uniqueness style and the cultural value of the discussed issues, having the love instituted as a guide of his literary production, around the various topics, including the relationship between people and political power.
The jury also advances for the fact that the author, in the whole of his poetry, associates politics and ideology, interactions that the recent history of Angola raises, folk and wonderful traditions, and the preservation of the environment.
In the category of dance, the prize was awarded to the Novatos da Ilha group, the music was distinguished Rui Mingas, film and audiovisual fell to Langidila documentary, drama to Julu group, while research in humanities and social sciences was attributed to researcher Ilídio do Amaral.
José Luís Mendonça, born on November 24, 1955 in the province of Kwanza Norte, has a degree in Law from the Agostinho Neto University (UAN) and is a member of the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA).
