This was announced by the Energy and Water minister João Baptista Borges on Tuesday, stressing that the infrastructure will significantly increase energy production in the region.
Speaking to the press, João Baptista Borges spoke of the sector’s plan to install eight power transformers and expand the distribution network.
He said that the move is meant to ensure more than 11 thousand home connections.
The minister also announced plan to build a solar plant (photo voltaic), with a view to reducing the costs of obtaining fuels, in Luena city.
For the other municipalities of Moxico, he said that the sector intends to implement solar energy, in addition to the neighbour Zambia’s plan to provide energy to the border municipalities in the near future.
In order to tackle the energy situation in Alto Zambeze and Léua, the official said that a Luena thermal power station will be revived and installed in one of these localities.
The official of the need to expand the network of the 10 interconnected Angolan provinces in the electrification system to the new capital cities and municipal headquarters, as part of the National Development Plan and Ministry's actions.
As for the water, he informed that 15,000 connections will be made after the completion of the programme to combat the ravines and de-seeding of the Luena and Lumege rivers, to better attract and distribute this liquid.
During his stay in Luena, João Baptista Borges, who is working in Camanongue municipality Tuesday, visited various projects linked to the sector.
