Saurimo - The governor of the eastern Lunda Sul province Daniel Neto has suggested the implementation of renewable energy projects for local communes headquarters to reduce the energy production costs in thermal power plants.

  • LUNDA SUL: DANIEL FÉLIX NETO, PROVINCIAL GOVERNOR

This was at the end of the visit of minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, to Lunda Sul province on Thursday.

He said that in addition to Saurimo city, the capital of the province, the problem of energy also affects the other municipalities.

As example, he mentioned Muconda municipality which, according to him,  does not have any generator set and drinking water distribution station.

According to him, the improvement of energy supply to the region requires the construction of ¨Hidrochicapa2¨ dam and the interconnection of the eastern region with the northern system of the country.

Daniel Neto also expressed concern about the construction of 40 megawatts-Txicumina 2 Thermal Power Plant that had come to a halt for almost seven months, due to financial constraints.

In turn,  the minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, pledged that the sector would  do everything  to complete the construction works of the plant by December.
