The minister was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the meeting of the Economic Commission of Cabinet Council, which approved on Friday the decree on simplification and reduction of maritime freight duties.
In practical terms, he said, there is a reduction of costs around 50 percent in terms of all costs related to import of cargo, certification of shipments and any emoluments to be paid on the import of goods or merchandise.
The minister said that the impact is to ensure the promotion of exports, adding that the effort to promote the competitiveness of domestic products allows other conditions at the level of domestic producers.
"It is an impact that is felt both for the country and abroad. We still focus on maritime transport matters, as 90 percent of our imported cargo comes by sea, "said the minister.
Ricardo de Abreu pointed out that the objective is to ease and reduce costs in the national economy and in sectors that make a significant contribution.
