Sports: AMUD to get third president

Luanda - Angolan Women and Sports Association, founded eleven years ago, will have the third leader, after the terms of office of the founder Teresa Quarta who was succeeded in 2013 by Odete Tavares.

So far, no one has confirmed the candidacy yet.

But a source close to the organisation told Angop that among those interested in confirming their candidacy include the current vice president Ana Gourgel and the former handball player Justina Praça. 

Also believed to run Marcelina Quiala and Elzira Tavares, who are also former handball players.

 The list include Nacissela Maurício, who was distinguished by FIBA-Africa among the 12 athletes who have influenced the development of sport in the latest decade. 

The body’s main goal is to create sport development policies to balance the gender.

It announced plans to renew its mandate on 22 October, according to decision taken by ordinary general assembly on Saturday in Luanda.

Led by the vice president, Ludimira Sousa, the meeting elected the former advisor of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Isabel Major to lead the Electoral Commission.   

The former basketball player will be assisted by secretary general of  the Angolan Paralympic Committee, António da Luz, in addition to Domingos Pascoal. 

The ordinary assembly held by Zoom platform (only for those living outside Luanda province), approved among other issues the reports and accounts for 2018 -2020.
